The Driver Online Pre-Licensing Course

The Online Pre-licensing course is a required 5-hour class for all New York learner’s permit holders aged 18 and older before obtaining a driver’s license. It covers essential safe driving topics, including road rules, defensive driving strategies, and basic vehicle operation.

What You Get After The Course:

You will receive a MV-278 Pre-Licensing Course Completion Certificate. The MV-278 is proof that you've completed the mandatory 5-hour Pre-Licensing Course, which is a prerequisite for taking the road test to get a New York State driver's license. 

You may opt to have the certificate mailed to your address or handed to you during your next lesson.

A pre-licensing course completion certificate from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, including fields for student name, date of birth, eye color, mailing address, city, state, ZIP code, provider's name and address, driving school, course cost, license number, issue and expiration date, and signatures of student and instructor.
